2022 Winter Wheat Variety Survey Results

The Idaho Wheat Commission conducts variety surveys in winter and spring to understand which varieties have been planted throughout the state. The information shared is kept confidential and totals are reported by the National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) reporting districts as a percentage reported through the survey.Northern Idaho NASS District 10 comprised 48 percent of wheat acres reported in the survey. In this district, LCS Shine replaced Norwest Tandem as the top SWW variety. An early maturing variety, LCS Shine offers low rainfall adaptation with high yield potential and most desirable end use qualities. Westbred 1529 and M-Press also climbed the ranks of planted varieties in Northern Idaho.In all southern NASS reporting districts, SY Ovation maintained its top rank as the most planted variety. In NASS District 90, where 40 percent of reported acres were planted, Brundage ranked as a close second. SY Assure was also reported on significant acreage in the southwest and southcentral reporting districts of Idaho.  Your most recent Preferred Variety List can be found here.
