Top trade officials from the U.S. and UK will meet in Baltimore next week — the first of two scheduled meetings announced Wednesday by the Biden administration — sparking new hope that the two countries are moving closer to negotiations for a free trade agreement. U.S. Trade Representative Katherine Tai will meet with British Secretary of State for International Trade Anne-Marie Trevelyan at the Renaissance Baltimore Harborplace Hotel for talks Monday and Tuesday. The Office of the USTR did not describe the meetings as negotiations, but rather as a “discussion” to “explore how the United States and United Kingdom can collaborate to advance mutual international trade priorities rooted in our shared values, while promoting innovation and inclusive economic growth for workers and businesses on both sides of the Atlantic.”
