The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has launched the ‘One Farmer, One File’ program with the mission to “create a single, streamlined record that follows the farmer” — consolidating records from NRCS, FSA, and RMA. The goal is to reduce paperwork and eliminate redundancy, making USDA programs more accessible. The new system promises a modern approach to improve efficiency and cut red tape. Overall, the new system should save time for farmers as their file follows them across agencies under the USDA umbrella and removes existing agency silos. While easing the administrative burden for farmers, the ‘One Farmer, One File’ program also aims to reduce government spending and make program delivery more efficient, according to the USDA website. When the new system is fully implemented (estimated to be in 2028), USDA will retire existing systems.
