The war in Ukraine is affecting people globally from gas prices to wheat consumption. "Ukraine and Russia account for about 30% of total world exports," said Casey Chumrau, the Executive Director of the Idaho Wheat Commission. "So that is a huge percentage and really is a hard portion for the rest of the exporting countries to make up. So making up 30% of that exports is really difficult." The demand for the world's wheat could affect Idaho wheat farmers. Idaho is currently the fifth largest producer in the United States. "Ukraine and Russia export wheat to a lot of different countries, North Africa, the Middle East, and those countries are really going to be hurting if they don't have their normal supply of wheat so they will have to look elsewhere into the kind of some of their more nontraditional suppliers," Chumrau said.
