The new Continuing Resolution that Congress and the White House came to agreement on this week did more than reopen the federal government. Food for Peace, one of the two federal food aid programs, was allocated $1.2 billion in the bill.
Additionally, language in the legislation directs USDA to work with the Department of State to transfer administration of Food for Peace back to USDA as it was originally established. This is something the wheat industry has been advocating for since USAID was dismantled.
The legislation delivered big for agriculture, including full appropriations for fiscal year 2026 and full funding for USDA’s operations and reports. The CR extended farm bill programs through September 30, 2026 as well. The U.S. Grain Standards Act, which authorizes the Federal Grain Inspection Service to establish official marketing standards was also extended.
