Collaboration Grows a Stronger Industry

This week, wheat commission leadership and staff from Idaho, Oregon, and Washington met together in Portland for a tri-state commission meeting.  Agenda topics covered market development, research and breeding, and grower programs and education.  As the grower leaders from the three PNW states discussed research needs, breeding efforts, and strong foundation seed programs, consumer trends and customer support in overseas markets, and ideas on how to keep PNW farmers engaged and the industry sustainable, it was clear that opportunities to collaborate across state lines – within the Pacific Northwest or beyond – cultivate a stronger, more viable industry.

Idaho Wheat commissioners honor the uniqueness of our state and growing districts while also acknowledging common challenges.  Sharing successes and shortfalls in the approach to common challenges helps shape the Commission decisions and strategies that will bring stability and profitability to your farm.
