The Idaho Wheat Commission is governed by a board of five wheat producers who are appointed by the Governor of Idaho to serve up to two five-year terms. Click on the map below to discover the commissioners for each district.

District 1
Tim Freeburg
Tim Freeburg grew up farming in North Idaho, helping out his dad and grandpa at a young age. He worked his first full harvest running a combine at 12 years old. Tim has been running the farm on his own for over 25 years and he is now joined by his three young sons growing wheat, bluegrass seed, timothy hay, canola, oats and garbanzo beans. Tim's farm is dryland with minimum tillage production practices.

Cliff Tacke
Cliff and his wife, Sue, owned and operated a diversified row crop operation in Greencreek growing wheat, barley, hay, mustard, and Kentucky bluegrass. Cliff is newly retired, but still active on the farm, which is now owned by his son and daughter-in-law.

Wayne Hurst
Wayne grew up in Declo, east of Burley, in Cassia County. His diversified row crop operation is on the same land his grandparents cultivated and has been farmed by his family for nearly a century. He and his wife, Sherrie, now own and operate the farm where they grow wheat, sugar beets, dry beans, and alfalfa. He and Sherrie have five children and 12 grandchildren, and plan to keep their multigenerational family farm in the family for many more generations.

Justin Place
Justin Place was born and raised north of Idaho Falls in Hamer. His dad broke ground where he now farms and his childhood was spent picking rocks and hauling sagebrush off the land. Justin and his wife, Tara, now own and operate Place Farms, where they primarily grow wheat, barley, alfalfa, and mustard under irrigation pivots.

Cordell “Cory” Kress
Cory and his wife, Jamie, have farmed dryland acres in the Rockland Valley in Power County since 2004, growing primarily wheat, pulses, and canola using no-till production practices. Cory earned a degree in engineering from the University of Idaho. After graduating from U of I he worked for several years in the food processing division of Simplot before returning to Rockland to farm.
