Project: PNW SWW Quality Report Investigator: Wheat Marketing Center, Portland, Oregon
Cooperators: Idaho Wheat Commission Oregon Wheat Commission Washington Wheat Commission U. S. Wheat Associates
Abstract: Currently, about 80 per cent of soft white wheat grown in the Pacific NW is sold to international buyers. Wheat importers have asked for additional information about the end-use quality of this crop. Competing countries provide extensive wheat and flour information to customers.
Objectives: 1. Provide information about the functional and end-use quality characteristics that are helpful to buyers of soft white wheat. 2. Use this information to assist buyers of soft white in making purchasing decisions.
Procedures: 1. Collect soft white wheat samples. The same samples that are being collected by NASS for the Crop Quality Survey are used for this project. 2. Utilize the USW soft white wheat utilization matrix to identify the wheat, flour, and dough rheological tests that are desired by the buyers of U.S. soft white wheat. 3. Report results on a regional basis to farmers, the international grain trade and customers of soft white wheat. 4. A PNW SWW Quality Report will be published as soon as possible after harvest.
